The business process analysis involved several steps:

  1. The individual steps of core processes from the area of management of studies and instruction were established and illustrated in graphical form on the basis of a rough  "process map" (PDF [de]). Some of these areas were “online applications,” “management of tuition and fees,” “course catalogs,” “course registration procedures,” and “organization of examinations.” The data was prepared by employees of the university in cooperation with the responsible departments.
  2. Those conducting the analysis reviewed these processes together with the employees responsible for them in the individual departments and analyzed their potential for optimization.
  3. They then worked out measures for improving the processes and implemented them.
